Trends for Nursing Education: Today, Tomorrow and Beyond

Session Summary: We are living in transformational times. The rapid pace of change in our society has had a direct influence on higher education, healthcare, and nursing. This session will explore a variety of topics and trends that are influencing nursing education today and those that will shape the future for nursing education today. Nurse educators have an opportunity to be proactively involved in future trends and changes by maintaining an awareness of, and through engagement in healthcare and educational advancements.


Jean Giddens, PhD, FAAN, ANEF

Jean Giddens, PhD, RN, FAAN, AENF is Dean and Professor at the Virginia Commonwealth University School of Nursing in Richmond Virginia, a position she has held since July 2013. Dr. Giddens has had national influence on nursing education through her involvement with academic progression in nursing, curriculum expertise, innovative teaching platforms, as a consultant and author, and most recently as a co-leader of the AACN Essentials revision process. Dr. Giddens received a BSN degree from the University of Kansas, MSN degree from University of Texas, El Paso, and a PhD degree from Colorado State University. She is also an alumna of the Robert Wood Johnson Executive Nurse Fellow program, 2011 Cohort.
