Men as Nursing Faculty: Factors Associated with Recruitment and Retention

In the United States today there is a nursing shortage complicated by a shortage of faculty in schools of nursing. An additional concern is a shortage of males holding faculty positions in nursing schools. Examination of strategies used in the recruitment and retention of male faculty may reveal areas of improvement and inform new methods of recruitment and retention that can be used to ultimately alleviate the deficiency of male nursing faculty. This presentation will discuss the results of a national survey of male nurse faculty. The recruitment and retention strategies reported will also be discussed.
