Understanding the Basics of Simulation: Integrating the INACSL Standards of Best Practice

Simulation is on the move at a quick pace. Are you keeping up? Do you want to expand your knowledge of simulation? The quality of the simulations you offer is more important than the quantity. This presentation will cover the newly revised INACSL Standards of Best Practice: Simulation. The focus will be on learning the standards then understanding how to integrate the standards into your practice. Building a strong foundation of high quality simulation education within your program will set the stage for continued growth in the future.

Leann Horsley, PhD, RN, CHSE, CNE

Leann Horsley, PhD, RN, CHSE, CNE is an Assistant Professor at Loyola University Chicago Marcella Niehoff School of Nursing in Chicago, Illinois. Dr. Horsley is a nurse educator, researcher, and leader who focuses on the use of simulation to enhance learning and team performance. She is the Lead Nurse Planner for the International Nursing Association for Clinical Simulation and Learning (INACSL) organization, an Ambassador of the Loyola Institute for Transformative Interprofessional Education (I-TIE), and a recent Scholar in Sigma Theta Tau International (STTI) Nurse Faculty Leadership Academy. She is an active member of the INACSL and I-TIE Research Committee.

Nadine Parise, MS, CNE, RNC-OB

Nadine Parise, MS, RNC is a nurse educator for integration services at ATI Nursing Education. Nadine has been in Nursing for over 36 years. She has worked in a variety of clinical settings, including acute and community based healthcare systems. Her clinical focus has been Obstetrics and Women’s Health. For the past 10 years, Nadine has taught Nursing in Higher Education, including Traditional Associate, Baccalaureate and On-line BSN Completion Programs, as both a didactic and clinical educator. She is passionate about education and the need to ensure the quality of nursing education for the future of nursing and healthcare. Outside of the classroom, Nadine has been active in many national and international organizations. She has been a member of Sigma Theta Tau International since 2004. She has served on the Board of the Beta Omega Chapter as Vice President. She was selected to participate in the Sigma Theta Tau International Maternal Child Leadership Academy. Most recently, Nadine was invited to be an Inaugural Fellow for the International Nursing Association for Clinical Simulation and Learning (INACSL) with her cohort project focusing on Simulations Derailed by Rogue Behaviors and the need for faculty development to provide more optimal experiences in simulation. She is passionate about the importance of Inter-Professional Education and its application to nursing education. Since joining the ATI Nurse Educator Team, Nadine has worked with faculty from all over the Midwest. Their passion for student achievement and excellence is what motivates her the most.
