Future Trends in Simulation – Virtual, Augmented and Mixed Realities

Simulation has become a foundational strategy in most pre-licensure nursing programs The majority of the simulations today use simulators or mannequins to deliver learning experiences that focus on acute care patients experiencing a heart attack or respiratory distress. But despite our best efforts at moulage, props and tricks we are lacking fidelity in areas such as portraying realistic ‘stroke’ symptoms? The future of simulation will move beyond the mannequin and combine the areas of virtual, augmented and mixed realities to allow more opportunities to gain fidelity or realism to engage our learners in simulation. This talk will focus on the future of simulation and how using technology can bring more reality into simulation. Think Star Trek Holodeck!
